Preview evening at Get fresh

Here’s a few pics from the preview evening of ‘Get Fresh’ at the Devon Guild of Craftsmen. It was a wonderful evening with a great selection of work from emerging artists and a real hive of chat, intrigue and admiration. It was quite over whelming to be involved in my first exhibition and excites me for the opportunities which may come. I have since been approached by a Dartmouth gallery and look forward to exhibiting there in the near future. The exhibition is still on and I recommend a trip to see the beautiful work displayed in ‘Get Fresh’ and throughout the rest of the gallery.

I am privileged to be a part of ‘Get Fresh’ at the Devon Guild of Craftsmen opening this Saturday 17th January to Sunday 8th March. ‘Get Fresh’ is a showcase of work from emerging designer-makers from the South West. I will be showing my work which appreciates the gentle forms of communication through the use of 1900’s postcards which I construct into forms then combine into jewellery pieces. I have a selection of one-off sculptural pieces and smaller pieces which are more wearable for everyday.  I can’t wait to see the work of the other exhibitors and be a part of the show. I look forward to hearing your feedback if you get a chance to go and see.

Native Makers

I was part of ‘Native Makers’ on the 7th December at Rumpus & Cosy, Plymouth, a Christmas craft fair with 25 local, under 30’s makers who are seeking to get recognised. It was a fab event which was amazingly organised by the lovely Rosie Drake-Knight. I loved the event, sold a few pieces and made some great contacts, it was also great fun making my stand look pretty!

bangle

It was lovely to make this bangle today. It’s a design which has been on my mind for sometime and today I got to create it. A new type of setting for the postcard, prong setting instead of rivet. It could be tweaked but really happy with this 1st attempt. The colours all complement eachother also. What a beautiful postcard.

Graduation

Saturday 18th October was the day! I graduated and I still can’t believe it. I loved Uni and actually really miss it, but, it was incredibly hard work and stressful and this day just really appreciated the effort and commitment I put into my three years studying Jewellery and Silversmithing. Hollie Nolan was my rock, always knowing what to say when I was upset or stressed  and one of the best things about Uni was meeting her and getting the most wonderful new friend, a friend for life. It was a fantastically wonderful day with the support of my caring family (who also I couldn’t have done it without) a day I will not forget!

Victoria Sewarts Jewellery Gallery

It was a wonderful feeling going to see Victoria at her gorgeous and inspiring gallery on the Barbican, Plymouth to deliver my jewellery. This was a huge first for me and felt incredible. I later visited the gallery and saw my work in the display case alongside many other inspirational and recognised jewellers. Please if you get the chance visit the gallery, there is a beautiful range of contemporary Jewellery.

New opportunities, thoughts and designs

I’ve been finding it hard to juggle working part-time and making for my upcoming events. I’ve really missed the full time making of being at Uni but my part-time job has recently given me great new opportunities and I’m loving the new challenges. I suppose this is the time I’m coming to realise how difficult it is to be a full time maker and live independently from making jewellery. However, I am working out my routine and on my days off I am loving being in my workshop, turning on the radio and quietly creating. I have been designing and thinking about how I can develop my postcard jewellery into pieces which are more wearable and affordable.  I love this new piece, feminine and pretty it includes a pretty floral postcard pattern, delicate french writing and complementary oxidised sterling silver. Soon to be on show at Victoria Sewarts Contemporary Jewellery Gallery in Plymouth. Until my next day off….

Our Day at the Art Car Boot

Despite having a horrendous cold Mum and I made our was to Newton Ferrers for the Art Boot Sale I’d been invited to attend. Lots of stalls, a mixture of old and new and we had great fun making our stall look pretty!!
